If you were put in charge of the Governing Body tomorrow...
by FusionTheism inif you were somehow magically put in-charge of the governing body tomorrow, by jesus, with the rules being, you could not teach anything that would be considered outright apostasy and you could not teach anything that would be considered to cause doubt about god's existence... (so as not to arouse suspicion).
what "new light" or "clarified understandings" would you introduce first?.
and which later on?.

Annointed 144k only male?
by JerryTX ini was told there was new light by a former jw.
i wanted to verify if it was true.
the new light claims the annointed class/144k is always male.

There are no anointed in the Organization. But it is true the GB would prefer to have only males in that club, if they could.

It came in today's mail
by Virgochik init came today, the dreaded envelope containing my personal copy of "return to jehovah" from my elderly, desperate mother.
it included a small note asking me to read it over and to let her know what i think.
she got it at her assembly.. firstly, i'm angry that she continues to push her religion on me, given that i stopped attending meetings over thirty years ago, and very offended that she assumes that i still want to be a witness, which is her choice of religion, not mine.

Oubliette,
You are getting stuck in the religion. A good father or mother puts their children before themselves. There is nothing wrong with a good son or daughter putting their elderly parent before themselves. Especially so if that parent was a loving parent.
Many, many people who were never JWs put their elderly parents needs before their own. To bring an elderly father or mother home to live with oneself is a sacrifice which requires putting our parents before ourselves. Changing diapers, giving baths, listening to the same story a thousand times, and much more, is a sacrifice of love many selfless grown children provide for parents who are in need.
To simply be patient with an old woman's belief is by comparison a miniscule sacrifice for a grown adult.

Virgochik,
My advice:
Love your mother.
Forgive her for her mistakes and stop letting her religion be the focal point of your relationship with her.
Love your mother.
Be patient. Be kind. Allow her to express herself and do not take away her trust in the Watchtower. At this late date in her life she needs to believe.
Put her before yourself.

Reasoning on the New "1900 Years" JW Theology (from David Splane)
by FusionTheism ininspired by the three recent threads on david splane's new video declaring, among other things, that there was no faithful slave for 1900 years, and there may not have even been any genuine anointed ones during those years, i decided to make this post.. here are the three previous threads on this topic:.

Br. Splane's talk was just plain stupid. The early Christians had the Bible. It was in the languages of the times. They did the preaching work.
He sounds like a man on the Titanic reaching for anything floating by.
The putrid smell of no substance reeks from his face.

Christians not knowing the Bible
by Viviane inlast night a young man in a bar struck up a conversation with me.
our town is having our pride parade soon and he brought it up, the bible and how it's against the bible.
me being me, i said that i couldn't care less that it was against the bible and that it was a horrible guide for morality anyway.

Jesus believed it was. Are you saying Jesus was wrong?
Dear Lady, where did you get the idea that to refer to a Biblical story is to believe it literal? Interestingly, when referring to the Flood of Noah's day and men marrying and women given in marriage Jesus said nothing about angels come down to have sex with women.
He did not subscribe to that erroneous teaching.

"Adam was never an embryo" I'll have to reconsider my post. New truth...Adam did not have nipples! -

To add come clarity to the subject of men's nipples and women's nipples: in truth it is no big deal. Mammals have nipples. It is the way it is. -

Paul said NOT to be "Harsh" in Shunning
by FusionTheism inthe apostle paul warned the corinthians not to be too harsh in their shunning of a man who was guilty of sexual immortality / adultery:.
2 co 2:5-11: now if anyone has caused sadness, he has saddened, not me, but all of you to an extentnot to be too harsh in what i say.
this rebuke given by the majority is sufficient for such a man; now you should instead kindly forgive and comfort him, so that he may not be overwhelmed by excessive sadness.

Jesus did not teach those who did wrong should be shunned or put out of the congregation. This was Paul's idea. -

Cappytan,
Adam had Eve. The only man on earth, had the only woman on earth. I'm sure he found his balls as some point. lol
